HOW DO YOU DISPLAY YOUR 2012 PINS ?

Postby NOEL 9 » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:03 pm

Now we all spend lots of time, money and effort collecting our 2012 pins, but what do we then do with them once we have collected these little buggers... For me myself this is a big problem these days .... Firstly you need some thing or some where to store them (that's practical, not too expensive to maintain or purchase, you can add to with ease and looks good too) an old suit case in the loft may do, so would a card board box under the bed .... but where's the fun in in that.) i want to see my collection, also as we all knows until the hand over to RIO there are going to be more pins to add to the collection.... ( that's a scary thought !!!!! and think of the COST !!!!! on 2nd thoughts No don't think of the cost... )

a few ideas None very original

you can wear them...... Not really an option

PIN BOARDS Not too costly .... BUT do you DISPLAY WITH BACKING CARD OR WITHOUT ?

PICTURE FRAMES ..... WHERE TO BUY OR MAKE AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE ? (you want them to match after all Don't you ?)

and if we remove the backing cards and butterfly backs, how & where do we store those bits . ? Another box maybe with a note book OR FILE detaling what back goes with what pin ..... or am i just being silly now ?

So back to my original question HOW DO ( OR HOW WILL ) YOU DISPLAY YOUR 2012 PINS ?

I can't wait for your feed back..... Happy Collecting

I collect all my pins on pin boards and pin through the back of the backing card so the card displays behind the pin - looks good and I rotate my 2500 strong collection so I see them all at some point - a nice way to do it. I also have a pin collecting case which is a nice and practical way to display your traders particularly. I don't tend to frame them - although I have framed all my Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Countdown pins which countdown from 99-1 day to go. That looks nice but was an expensive treat.

Well, took your advice Tom, popped my new pictogram pins on a new pin board (found it easier to sort them out there is soooooooooooooooooooooo many.......) anyway as i am still awaiting the remaining missing ones and the paralympic ones when they come out that is, I think they can stay there until i complete that set. or i get bored with them...(which i think i wont coz i really like them)

Glad you took the advice Noel - hope they look good. I've got two boards now, one for non-pictogram pins and one for pictogram pins. Not to mention the London at Night set too of course.

Wood-framed cork boards are perfect for displaying your pins. Pins can be poked in and out without any difficulty. I don't include the backing-card as it takes up too much room and takes away from the beauty of the pins. The boards are easy to hang on walls and can be portable too. I try and put a board up for each Olympics I collect. My goal is to fill each board. I've seen pins displayed on just about everything. Don't get too caught up in the display. Keep it simple, inexpensive and just have fun. That's what the hobby is all about. Any pin traders out there, let me know. sandguy449@yahoo.com

I purchased a pin album on ebay which is great for displaying pin badges, its a binder with loose pages where yoiu can pin the the badges through the pages and clip them on the reverse, have a look for "Safe 7860 Pin Badge Storage Album" on ebay seller is sherwood2000, its just what you need to display the 2012 pins

This is a dilemma I'm now facing with Vancouver 2010 all but pretty much wrapped up; how to display my pins?

It's not just my Vancouver 2010 pins, it's pretty much my whole Olympic pin collection, which isn't that big, but it's getting there.

I like the cork board idea, but I don't like the fact you don't have the clutches together with your pins.

I also have a number of pins that have the hinged clasps (an '84 Sam the Eagle pin and a bunch of Disneyland '88 Olympic Team Salute pins). What's the best way to display these? I think In my whole collection I only have one stick pin, a German NOC '92 pin.

Shadow Boxes are ok, but they are expensive. I got a couple at Michael's Craft store for my railroad pin collection.

Currently I have my 2010 pins on these foam flags I bought at Michael's, problem is they are a little too thick and I'd like to try something else. Any suggestions?

:?: As to the pin boards you got: where did you get them and what type did you get? Oh, and what color background did you get. There are so many to pick from.

Thanks. :D

I picked up some nice cheap plain cork pin boards from the local 99p store... at 20inch x 12inch with a pine frame they are good quality,,,, especially at 99p... for that price you don't mind either covering the cork or painting it or leaving it blank.

i have two larger pin boards that i also use.... but they are too large (they look good, but too large to take around any where)

Also i have purchased some glass fronted boxes for some of my pin sets.... they are made from hard cardboard with a glass window covered with black leatherish plastic with a foam inlay.comes in loads of colours, but i have black and dark blue... originally designed to hold antique buttons.... they are ok....not completely right, but ok... still they cost around £10 a pop so not for the bargin buyers out there..... they come from the usa ( made in china no doubt, and shipped to the us, and then sold onto the uk most likely ) My discription sounds tacky, but they look ok. ..... and you can display modern pins and the older style pins and stick pins also..... all side by side
